News, Blog

A plethora of “third place” options have arrived in Grapevine, riding a wave of desire for social connection as the year winds down. As always, this list is a partial sampling chosen to highlight the diversity of the Grapevine market. A full Certificates of Occupancy list will show even more excellent new businesses that chose Grapevine this Fall. For now, here are five notable startups or expansions in our City.

These Talking Animals Skipped the Wardrobe and Opened a Second Store

Katy Lemieux and Valerie Walizadeh opened a bookstore with a family-friendly hangout space during the entrepreneurial wave that followed COVID and almost immediately outgrew their cozy storefront. The original Talking Animals Books at 103 W Worth St isn't going anywhere, but the duo decided to proactively open a second location to relieve pressure, increase event capacity, and create space for coffee and wine service. Beverage certifications are in-process at the new space, so you can't pair your books with a mug or glass of anything just yet, but both sites are officially open for retail sales… and a little bird told us events are booking fast.

Looking for a Morning Boost? Say Howdy, Honey

Brew & Batter founder Ashton Dierolf is back in the Historic District! Her new store, Howdy Honey, is officially open and pulling espresso shots in the revamped space at 106 E Texas St. Coffee lovers will find an accessible menu with diet- and allergen-friendly options ready and waiting from 8 am-5 pm every day, while fans of the original store will enjoy the same level of service alongside a more spacious layout featuring comfy booths and tables. Just a short walk from Main Street, this 970-square-foot indie coffee shop is the perfect spot for footsore shoppers and friends looking to say a quick "Howdy."

Marketing That Helps Small Businesses Thryv

Visibility and marketing are some of the most important – and most underleveraged – aspects of running a small business. It's hard to focus on abstract things like brand recognition and lead generation when you're caught up in the day-to-day operations of a business. Fortunately, Thryv can cover the gaps you don't have time to fill. The small business growth machine has a new combination office and warehouse on Municipal Way, and we can't wait to watch them (and their local clients)… do really well together.

United Defense Tactical Combines Fitness, Discipline, and Preparation

In a perfect world, self-defense courses would be replaced with fitness clubs. Until that day comes, however, United Defense is ready to teach students of any level how to properly handle firearms and defend their homes or offices. Their 5,200-square-foot facility off State Highway 114 is designed to help civilians prepare for worst-case scenarios so that, if an emergency occurs, they can act with confidence. The company operates in multiple states, but its Grapevine facility is the only site in Texas.

The Fashion Police Won't File Charges Against These Outlaws

Given Grapevine's Western spirit and ties to certain infamous outlaws, it's hard to imagine a more fitting concept for Main Street than The Wildflower Outlaws. A family business that once focused on digital sales, the Wildflower Outlaws have opened an exclusive brick-and-mortar location at 406 S Main St. They specialize in American-made products in Bohemian and Western styles, and if their first few weeks are any indication, they'll be a must-see boutique for Grapevine shoppers into the foreseeable future. Bonnie and Clyde might be out most infamous duo, but we expect this mother-daughter trio to make a bigger (and significantly more positive) name for themselves in time.
