In a city known for its magical holiday season, several major events each year still stand out for adding fun to the calendar while boosting the bottom line for a variety of Grapevine businesses. One standout example: Bank of the West is a presenting sponsor for both Main Street Fest and GrapeFest. Their team recently shared the value of these marquee events and other festivals in building a vibrant community in a discussion with Grapevine Economic Development.
Civic engagement on a festival scale
Bank of the West’s ongoing involvement with both Main Street Fest and GrapeFest is rooted in a genuine commitment to community well-being.
“These festivals are meaningful fundraisers that directly support local charities and civic organizations,” said Cynthia L. Blankenship, Vice Chairman and Corporate President at Bank of the West. “We’re inspired by how the community steps up to celebrate Grapevine in a way that’s both festive and family-friendly. It’s truly a win-win for all involved.”
The ripple effects of events are also felt through new community connections forged between volunteers, businesses, and residents. Sponsors, including Bank of the West, view sponsorship as more than a monetary commitment. Providing feet on the street and volunteering time and energy outside of business hours is crucial to the partnership.
“The collective pride and commitment to creating a high quality of life for all income levels and backgrounds is a true testament to how deeply this community cares for one another. The bank actively supports and encourages participation, not just locally but across our broader branch network. The spirit of giving back is deeply embedded in our culture, and it’s reflected in the enthusiasm and generosity of our staff,” Blankenship said, also highlighting the drive of all volunteers, organizers, and supporters, from the city to civic organizations to citizens.
Beyond the fun, festivals boost local businesses
Events like Main Street Fest are beloved because they bring the perfect balance of entertainment for all ages to Grapevine. From a designated Kid Zone to themed experiences like a craft beer tasting for adults, events are crafted to provide a safe and festive atmosphere everyone can enjoy.
“I believe the attraction – not only for local residents, but to other residents outside the metro area and even from other states – revolves around the true 'Main Street' festival nostalgia and the idea of a local fair,” Blankenship said. “The experience is something easily shared across generations, and we find repeat visitors who return year after year as they grow from children to adults. A sense of tradition is fostered and carried on by the attendees.”
However, the impact of festivals extends beyond memory-making – they can be a key area of support and growth for local entrepreneurs. Small businesses, artisans, and food vendors at different festivals gain exposure and easy access to foot traffic. Meanwhile, visitors from surrounding areas are contributing their tourism dollars to the local economy. Even enterprises from outside the central event area benefit from increased traffic.

Celebrating the community
In Grapevine, Main Street Fest and other events provide an opportunity to celebrate both the community’s roots and create positive experiences for future generations.
“I truly believe that Grapevine is an amazing anomaly in today’s world,” Blankenship said. “Our community sits within a highly populated metro area, but when you are on Main Street, you feel like you are in Mayberry. That sense of nostalgia and a chance to show your children what a true Main Street looks and feels like, full of small entrepreneurs, evokes pride and respect.”
“After all, Wall Street was built on the back of Main Streets all over the country. The same rings true with a community bank like ours. We are part of the community, and we take pride in the services and support we provide, which contributes to a healthier economy and a more prosperous business climate. We live here and work here and are extremely proud of our role in keeping our community strong.”
